Structure: Subject+ verb+ as+ 1st adjective+ as+ 2nd adjective + noun.
লন্ডন শহর যেমন বড়, তেমন সুন্দর - The city of London is as big as beautiful.
মেয়েটি যেমন সুন্দরী, তেমনি বুদ্ধিমতি The girl is as beautiful as intelligent.
কমলাপুর স্টেশনটি যেমন বড়, তেমন সুন্দর- The Kamalapur station is as big as beautiful.
পাখিটির পালক দুধের মত সাদা- The feather of the bird is as white as milk.

যতই পড়িবে ততই শিখিবে- The more you read the more will you learn.
যত বেশি তত খুশী- The more the merrier. যে

যত শ্রীঘ্র, তত ভালো- The sooner the better
যে যত বেশি ঘুমায় সে তত বেশী অলস হয়- The more he sleeps the lazier he becomes.

Tag question এর translation করার সময় মূল Sentence টি positive হলে তার সাথে Negative tag এবং মূল Sentence টি Negative হলে তার সাথে Positive tag সংযুক্ত করতে হয়।

✪✪ PRESENT PARTICIPLE
Structure: Subject+ verb+ object+ Present Participle
মেয়েটি হাসিতে হাসিতে আমার দিকে আসিল- The girl came to me laughing
কুকুরটি লেজ নাড়িতে নাড়িতে প্রভুর কাছে গেল- The dog went to its master shaking its tail.
আমি তাকে গান গাহিতে দেখিলাম I saw him singing
ছেলেটি দৌড়াইয়া আমার দিকে আসিল- The boy came to me running.
বালিকাটি নাচিতে নাচিতে চলিয়া গেল- The girl went away dancing.
সে ঘুমাইয়া কথা বলে- He talks while sleeping.
সে খাইয়া, গল্প করিয়া এবং ঘুমাইয়া সময় কাটায়- He spends his time eating, gossiping and sleeping.
সে কেঁদে কেঁদে বলল- He said weeping.
Note: হাসিতে হাসিতে, হাসিয়া হাসিয়া, কাঁদিতে কাঁদিতে ইত্যাদি অসমাপিকা (Intransative verb) ক্রিয়ার translation Present Participle হয়। এইরূপ ক্রিয়া দ্বারা যদি কাজের ভংগি না বুঝাইয়া সময় বুঝায়, তবে present Participle এর পূর্বে While শব্দটি বসাতে হয়।
(ii) যাইয়া, খাইয়া, করিয়া ইত্যাদি ক্রিয়ার translation : - Present Participle বা Perfect
participle (Having + verb এর past participle) দ্বারা করা যায় ।
এই বলিয়া রাজা বৃদ্ধকে তাড়াইয়া দিলেন- Saying this, the king drove away the old man.
Having said this, the king drove away the old man.
ঘরে প্রবেশ করিয়া আমি বাতিটি জ্বালালাম- Entering the room, I lit the lamp.
পাথরের পরে বসিয়া বৃদ্ধ নাবিক অতিথিদের তার পাশ দিয়া হাটিয়া যাইতে দেখিলেন Sitting on a stone, the old sailor saw the guests walking past him.
বাড়ী যাইয়া সে মায়ের মৃত্যুর সংবাদ শুনিল- Going home, he heard the death news of his mother.
চুল বিক্রি করিয়া ডেলা জীমের জন্যে বড়দিনের পুরস্কার কিনিল Selling hair, Della bought Christmas gift for Jim.
✪✪ THE GERUND AND THE VERBAL NOUN
GERUND: Verb এর Present form এর সহিত ing যুক্ত হইয়া যে শব্দ Noun ও verb এর কাজ এক সংগে সম্পন্ন করে তবে তাকে Gerund বলে ।
Verbal Noun: Gerund এর পূর্বে The এবং পরে of ব্যবহার করা হইলে তাকে Verbal Noun বলে।
সাঁতার কাটা একটা ভাল ব্যায়াম - Swimming is a good exercise.
ভাল বই পঠন মানসিক শান্তি আনে- Reading good books brings mental peace.
দেশভ্রমণ শিক্ষার একটি অংশ- Travelling is a part of education.
ইতিহাস পাঠ আমাকে আনন্দ দেয়- The reading of history delights me.
আমি কবিতাপড়া পছন্দ করি। like the reading of poetry.
✪✪ By/ without+ gerund.
কঠোর পরিশ্রম করে তুমি জীবনে উন্নতি করতে পার- By working hard you can prosper in life
সুষম খাদ্য খেয়ে তুমি ভালভাবে বাঁচতে পার- By eating a balanced diet you can live well.
ঘড়ি দেখে তুমি সময় জানতে পার- By looking at a watch you can know the time.
স্বাস্থের নিয়ম পালন না করে তুমি সুস্বাস্থ্য রক্ষা করতে পার না Without observing the rules of health you can not maintain good health.

ভুল করা মানুষের স্বাভাব- To err is human.
ক্ষমা স্বর্গীয় To forgive is divine.
মিথ্যা বলা মহাপাপ To tell a lie is a great sin.

লোকটি মরমর হয়েছে- The man is about to die.
অন্যের দোষ ধরা সহজ- It is easy to find fault with others.
চুরি করা অপরাধ- To steal is an offence.
তার পরিবার জুতা নাই- He has no shoes to put on.
প্রার্থনা করা ভাল- To pray is wise
কমলাটি খাইতে টক- The orange is sour to taste
আমি একটি লিখিবার কলম চাই- I want a pen to write with.
তাকে বসিবার একটি চেয়ার দাও- Give him a chair to sit on.
আমার লিখিবার কাগজ নাই- I have no paper to write on.
সে লিখিবার কালি কিনিল He bought ink to write in
তাকে নির্দোষ বলে মনে হয় He seems to be innocent.
দেয়ালটি পড়পড় হইয়াছে- The wall is about to collapse.
তোমার কৃতকার্যতার সংবাদ শুনে আমি আনন্দিত হলাম I was glad to hear the of your success.
তার আজ ঢাকায় যাওয়ার কথা আছে- Today he is to go to Dhaka,
সত্য কথা বলতে কি সে একজন বাজেলোক- To speak the truth, he is a rubbish fellow.
সংক্ষেপে বলতে গেলে সে একজন ভাল মানুষ- To tell in short, he is a nice soul.
Structure: Too+ Adjective+infinitive with to
আমি এত পূর্বল যে এক ইঞ্চি নড়তে পারি না- I am too weak to move an inch.
নাবিকেরা এত বেশি পিপাসা ছিল যে তারা কথা বলতে পারেনি The sailors were too thirsty to speak.
জিম এত বেশি গরীব ছিল যে একটি চেন কিনতে পারেনি- Jim was too poor to buy a chain.
চাটি এত বেশী গরম যে পান করা যায় না- The tea is too hot to drink.
(i) Structure: Too + Adjective/ adverb + for + object
কবিতাটি এত কঠিন যে তিনি বুঝতে পারে - The poem is too difficult for him to understand.
রাস্তাটি এত সরু যে রিক্সা চলতে পারে না- The road is too narrow for a rickshaw to move.
বোঝাটি এত ভারী যে সে বহন করতে পারে না- The load is too heavy for him to carry.
সে এত দ্রুত কথা বলেছিল যে আমরা তাকে বুঝতে পারিনি- He spoke too fast for us to understand.
Structure: Subject + am/get/ become/ grow / Used to+ verb + ing
আমি কঠোর পরিশ্রম করতে অভ্যস্থ-I am used to working hard.
সুমন কবিতা লিখতে অভ্যস্থ হয়ে পড়েছে Sumon has become used to writing poetry.
সে গভীর রাতে পড়তে অভ্যস্থ হয়ে পড়েছিলো- He got used to reading at late night.

সে এত রাগান্বিত যে কথা বলতে পারে না- He is so angry that he can not speak.
সমস্যাটি এত কঠিন যে আমরা এটা সমাধান করতে পরি না- The problem is so hard that we can not solve it.
সে এত আস্তে আস্তে কথা বলছে যে আমরা শুনতে পারছিনা- He is speaking so slowly that we can not understand

সে কঠোর পরিশ্রম করে যাতে সে দ্রুত উন্নতি করতে পারে - He works hard so that he can prosper soon.
আমি দ্রুত দৌড়ালাম যাতে ট্রেণটি ধরতে পারি I ran fast so that I could catch the train.
জেরী অনেকগুলি মিথ্যে কথা বলেছিল যাতে সে লেখিকার সাথে সম্পর্ক স্থাপন করতে পারে Jerry told a series of lies so that he might establish a relation with the authoress.
খলিফা ছদ্মবেশে বের হলেন যাতে করে কেউ তাকে চিনতে না পারে- The caliph went out in disguise so that anyone might not recognise him.
✪✪ Not only --but also
সে শুধু একজন ভাল ছাত্রই নয়, একজন ভাল খেলোয়াড়ও He is not only a good, student but also a good player.
আমরা তাকে শুধু খাবারই দেইনি, আশ্রয়ও দিয়েছিলাম- We gave him not only food but also shelter
নাবিকেরা বৃদ্ধ নাবিককে শুধু অভিশাপই দেয়নি, তিরস্কারও করেছিল The sailors not only cursed the old mariner but also rebuked him.
শুধু সেই নয়, তার বন্ধুরাও সভায় যোগ দিয়েছিল Not only he but also his friends joined the meeting.

তুমি তোমার ভাইয়ের মত লম্বা নও- You are not as tall as your brother.
অংকটি তত কঠিন ছিল না যতটা মনে হয়েছিল- The sum was not so hard as it seemed to be.
লোকটি এত অসহায় নয় যতটা মনে হয়- The man is not so helpless as he seems.
লেখক যতটা আশা করেছিলেন অতিথিনী ততটা সুন্দরী ছিলেন না- The lady guest was not so beautiful as the writer expected to be

হয় সে অথবা তার ভাই এ জঘন্য কাজটি করেছিল- Either he or his brother has done this vile deed.
হয় তুমি অথবা তোমার ভাই আগামীকাল আমার সহিত দেখা করবে- Either you or your brother will meet me tomorrow.
খাইলে খাও নয় চলে যাও - Either eat or go away.
✪✪ Neither — nor
মুনীর পড়েও না কাজও করেনা- Munir neither reads nor works.
সে বাড়ীও থাকে না স্কুলেও যায় না- He neither stays at home nor goes to school.
চাদ কিংবা তারা কিছুই তখন আকাশে দৃশ্যমান ছিল না- Neither the moon nor the stars were visible in the sky.
Note: Either or বা Neither nor দ্বারা একটি singular এবং একটি plural subject যুক্ত হলে Plural-টি পরে বসে এবং Verb টি Plural হয়।

মিনি দুধ এবং মাংস দুই পছন্দ করে- Mini likes both milk and meat. ম
ক্কা এবং মদিনা উভয়ই মুসলমানদের তীর্থস্থান Both Mecca and Medina are the holy places for the Muslims.
পিতাপুত্র দুজনই এ মামলায় জড়িত Both the father and the son are involved in this case.

তুমি যাও কি না যাও একই কথা- It is all the same whether you go or not.
তুমি বাঁচ কি মর তাতে আমার কিছু আসে যায় না- It matters little to me whether you live or die.
সে লেখাপড়া করে কি করে না জানিনা- I do not know whether he reads or not.
✪✪ No sooner.......than/ scarcely...... when/ Hardly....when.
আমরা স্টেশনে পৌছতে না পৌঁছতে ট্রেন ছেড়েছিল- No sooner had we reached the station than the train left.
শিক্ষক শ্রেণীকক্ষে ঢুকতে না ঢুকতেই ছেলেরা উঠে দাড়াল- Scarcely had the teacher entered the classroom when the students stood up
পুলিশে দেখা মাত্র চোরটি দৌড়িয়ে পালাল Hardly had the thief seen the police than he ran away.

Note 1: কাজের কর্তা (agent) এর পূর্বে by এবং যন্ত্র (Instrument) এর পূর্বে With ব্যবহৃত হয়। Note 2 : কর্তৃক দ্বারা দিয়া ইত্যাদি বিভক্তি থাকলে সাধারণত by, with through, along ইত্যাদি preposition ব্যবহৃত হয়।

নরসিংদী জিলার দগরিয়ায় তাহার জন্ম হয়- He was born at the village of Dagaria in the district of Narsingdi.
১৯৯২ সালের ১২ ই জুলাই মঙ্গলবার বিকাল ৫ টায় শিশুটির জন্ম হয়- The child was: born at 5P. M. on Tuesday, the 12th July in 1992.

ছাত্ররা ক্লাশরুমে আছে- The students are in the class room.
Note : স্থিতিশীলতা বুঝাতে in এবং অবস্থা জাতীয় পরিবর্তন বুঝাতে into বসে।

আমি বিকাল চারটার মধ্যে কাজটি শেষ করে ফেলব I shall have finished the work within 4 p. m.
আমরা একমাসের মধ্যে খালটি খনন করব- We shall dig the canal within a month.
আমরা দু'ঘন্টায় ঢাকায় পৌঁছেছিলাম-We reached Dhaka in two hours.
Note: ব্যাপক সময়ের শেষে বুঝালে in আর মধ্যে বুঝালে within বসে।
✪✪ For, Since
সকালে থেকে বৃষ্টি হচ্ছে- It has been raining since morning
আমি দু'ঘন্টা যাবৎ পড়িতেছি I have been reading for two hours.
তাহারা গত দশবছর ধরিয়া ঢাকায় বাস করিতেছে- They have been living in Dhaka for the last ten years.
Note: ব্যাপক সময়ের পূর্বে for এবং নির্দিষ্ট সময়ের পূর্বে since বসে।
✪✪ Beside, Besides
আমাদের কলেজের পাশে একটি মার্কেট আছে- There is a market beside our college.
এই বইগুলি ছাড়া আমার আরও অনেকগুলি বই আছে- Besides these books have many other books
Note: "পাশে'অর্থ বুঝাতে beside এবং “ইহাছাড়া / অধিকন্তু” বুঝাতে besides ব্যবহৃত হয়।
✪✪ Among, Between
আমগুলি বালকদের মধ্যে ভাগ করে দাও- Divide the mangoes among the boys.
মা লিচুগুলি আমাদের দুইজনের মধ্যে ভাগ করে দিলেন- Mother divided the liches between two of us.
Note: দু এর মধ্যে Between এবং দু এর অধিকের মধ্যে Among বসে ।
✪✪ In, on, to
সুন্দরবন দেশের দক্ষিণে- The Sunderban is to the south of the country.
সাইন্স ল্যাবরেটরী ঢাকা সিটি কলেজের পূর্বে The Science Laboratory is in the east of Dhaka City College.
বুড়িগংগা ঢাকার দক্ষিণে-The Buriganga is on the south of Dhaka.
Note: সীমার মধ্যে বুঝাতে in, সীমার বাহিরে বুঝাতে to এবং সীমার উপরে বুঝাতে on ব্যবহৃত হয়
✪✪ Conditional Sentences with unreal/ unfulfilled conditions
যদি তুমি আসতে তাহলে আমি তোমাকে সাহায্য করতাম- If you had come, I would have helped you.
যদি সে আগে রওনা হতো তাহলে সে ট্রেনটি ধরতে পারত- If he had started earlier, he could have caught the train.
আমি যদি তুমি হতাম তাহলে একাজ করিতাম না If I were done this work.
আমি যদি লক্ষপতি হতাম - If I were a millionairel
আমার যদি পাখির মত ডানা থাকিত-Had the wings of a bird!
ইচ্ছা হয়, যদি মরতে পারতাম! If I were dead!
আমি যদি আবার শিশু হতে পারতাম - If I were a child again!
✪✪ Use of the expression of "High time" "as if" "as though"
আর দেরী না করে আমাদের যাত্রা করা উচিত- It is high time we started.
আর দেরী না করে তোমার ধুমপান ছেড়ে দেয়া উচিৎ- It is high time you gave up smoking.
সে এমনভাবে কথা বলে যেন সে সব জানে- He speaks in such a way as if he knew everything.
সে যেন একটি মাতালের মত কথা বলে- He speaks as though he were a mad.
তুমি এমন ভাব করছো যেন তুমি একজন বিশাল পন্ডিত ব্যক্তি- You act as though you were a great scholar.
Note: High time, as though, as if এর পরের verb টির past form হয়। তবে as though এবং as if এর প্রথম অংশ Past Indefinite হলে পরের অংশ past perfect হয়।
✪✪ Relative Clause
যে বালকটি গতকাল ট্রাকের নীচে চাপা পড়েছিল, তাকে কি তুমি চেন? - Do you know the boy who was run over by a truck yesterday?
যে বালকটি পরীক্ষায় প্রথম হয়েছিলো সে আমার ভাই- The boy who stood first in the examination is my brother.
তুমি কি কাউকে দরজায় দাঁড়ায় থাকতে দেখেছিলে? - Did you see anybody standing at the door?
যে দেশকে ভালবাসে সে দেশপ্রেমিক- He who loves the country is a patriot.
যে কলমটি আমি তোমাকে দিয়েছিলাম উহা দামী-The pen which I gave you was
costly.
✪✪ Conjunction
দ্রুত হাট পাছে গাড়ী হারা Walk fast lost you should miss the train.
ভালকরে লেখপড় পাছে সব হারাও- Read attentively lest you should lose all.
ট্রেন না আসা পর্যন্ত আমাদেরকে অপেক্ষা করতে হবে- We shall have to wait until the train arrives.
আমন্ত্রিত না হলে আমি সভায় যাব না- 1 will not attend the meeting unless I am invited.
পরিশ্রম না করলে কেহ জীবনে উন্নতি করতে পারে না- None can prosper in life unless he works hard.
আমি তুমি সেও আমি একত্রে কলেজে যাৰ- You, he and shall go to college together. .
যেহেতু সে অসুস্থ ছিল- তাই সে কলেজে আসতে পারে নি. Since he was ill, he could not come to college.
যদিও তাদের গাড়ি নাই, তবুও তারা আসবে- Though they have no car, they will come. .
অসুস্থতার জন্যে সে সভায় যোগদিতে পারে নি He could not join the meeting because of his illness.
গরীব হওয়া সত্ত্বেও সে সৎ- In spite of his poverty he is honest.
ইচ্ছা থাকা সত্ত্বেও লেখক শ্যামপেন পান The writer could not drink champangne despite his willness.
Note: Lest দ্বারা যে clause শুরু হয় তার Negative হয় না এবং উহার verb এর পূর্বে should ব্যবহৃত হয়।

✪✪ Pattern 2. Subject+ Verb + Predicate word/ Phrase
এই বাড়িটি আমাদের This is our house.
তার স্বপ্ন কখনও বাস্তবায়িত হবে না- His dream will never come true.
বালিকাটি চা তৈরি করে- The girl makes tea.
✪✪ Pattern 3. Subject+ Verb+ Direct object
বৃদ্ধ নাবিক নির্দোষ পাখীটিকে হত্যা করল- The old sailor killed the harmless bird.
জেরী অনেক অপ্রয়োজনীয় কাজ করে ছিল- Jerry did many unnecessary works.
সে সবসময় দেরীতে রাতের খাবার খায়- He always takes his supper late.
✪✪ Pattern 4. Subject+ Verb+ Indirect object + Direct object.
আমার জন্মদিনে সে আমাকে একটি কলম উপহার দিল- He presented me a pen on my birth day.
আমি গতকাল তাকে একটি পার্সেল পাঠিয়ে ছিলাম - Yesterday I sent him a parcel
তোমার বইটি কি আমাকে দিবে?- Will you give me your book?
Note: প্রাণীবাচক object কে বলা হয় Indirect object এবং বস্তবাচক object কে বলা Direct object.
✪✪ Pattern 5. Subject + verb+ Direct object+ Preposition + Indirect object.
আব্বা আমার জন্যে একটি জামা কিনিলেন- Father bought a shirt for me.
আমার বন্ধু আমাকে একটি বই দিয়েছিল- My friend gave a book to me.
সে কখনও কাউকে কিছু ধার দেয় না-He never lends anything to any body.

আমরা তাকে চেয়ারম্যান বানালাম We made him chairman.
আমরা ফজলুল হককে শের-এ-বাংলা বলে থাকি-We call Fazlul Haque Sher-e-Bangla.
সে আমাকে বোকা বলল- He called me a fool.

আমি চিঠিটা খোলা পাইলাম I got the letter opend.
সে দরজাটি বন্ধ দেখল- He found the door closed.
চিত্রকর ছবিটিকে সাদা রংএ রঞ্জিত করল The painter painted the picture white.

আমি পাখিটিকে উড়তে দেখলাম I saw the bird flying.
সে আমাকে খেলতে দেখল- He found me playing

অধ্যক্ষ সাহেব নোটিশটি টানাইয়াছিলেন The Principal got the notice hung.

গতকাল আমি একটি শার্ট তৈরি করিয়াছিলাম- Yesterday I had a new shirt made.

আমি তাকে বোকা বলে জানি- I know him to be a fool.
লোকে তাকে সৎ বলে জানে- People know him honest
সে কখন নিজেকে মহত মনে করিতো না-He never considered himself great.

তিনি গ্রামের সবাইকে খবরটা বললেন- He told the news to everybody in the village
শিক্ষক আমাদের সবাইকে বাড়ীর কাজ দিলেন- The teacher gave homework to all of us.
আমার একজন বন্ধুকে আমার বইটি ধার দিয়েছিলাম- I lent my book to a friend of mine.

✪✪ Pattern 13. Subject+Verb+(not)+to-infinite (as object of the verb)
তিনি যেতে চান- He wants to go.
