borrow, lend, loan

These words refer to something used for a period of time and then returned.

You ‘borrow’ something from someone else.
You can borrow a book from the library. 

You ‘lend’ something that you own to someone.
I don’t lend my tools to anyone.

You can also ‘loan’ things to other people.
I’ll loan you fifty dollars. 

A ‘loan’ is a thing that has been borrowed or lent, especially money that has to be repaid with interest.
We could get a loan to pay for a new car.
